WILLEMSTAD – The community arts project Zjeitu is putting the creative talents of young people from Montaña, Rooi Santu, Sabana Baka and Fuik in the spotlight with a new exhibition opening this week. The initiative focuses on youth between 14 and 24 years old who, since July, have been taking weekly workshops aimed at strengthening their self-image, confidence and artistic skills. According to the organizers, the program also plays an important role in fostering social cohesion in the Pariba districts.
Under the guidance of photographer Giscard Lemarque Johannes, poet Calviany Eleonora and painter Janice Jansen, the participants have been working to refine their artistic abilities. For many, the project has been transformative. Participant Ishuarah described the experience as pivotal, saying, “I am mostly self-taught in painting and poetry. Zjeitu sharpened my skills and gave me space to grow. This program was an important moment in my personal and artistic development.”

The exhibition will be open to the public for two weeks, offering visitors an intimate look at how local youth interpret their environment, their dreams and their emotions through visual art and poetry. To support entrepreneurship, all artworks are for sale, with 70 percent of the proceeds going directly to the young artists and 30 percent to the gallery.
