WILLEMSTAD - The Government of Curaçao held a press conference yesterday to outline preparations and safety measures ahead of the upcoming Carnival festivities. During the briefing, authorities announced the implementation of an emergency repair plan targeting dilapidated buildings located along the official Carnival route.

According to the government, several buildings deemed structurally unsafe will be reinforced in the coming days. In cases where reinforcement alone is not sufficient, protective fencing will be installed to prevent close public access. Carnival-goers are being strongly advised not to stand too close to these buildings during events.

Special attention is being given to the Otrobanda area, where fencing will be placed at a minimum of three locations. These include buildings along the Roodeweg, the Frederikstraat, the Breedestraat, as well as structures in the vicinity of Habaai.

In addition to the safety measures, the government announced that starting at midnight on January 31, individuals and groups who have been officially assigned a location will be permitted to begin constructing viewing stands and other temporary structures along the Carnival route.

Authorities emphasized that these measures are intended to ensure public safety while allowing Carnival activities to proceed as planned, and urged the public to follow all guidance issued in the coming days.
