WILLEMSTAD – Around 200 secondary school students from VSBO 4 at SGO Jacques Ferrandi and Havo/VWO 4 at the MIL attended a special screening of the documentary Ocean by David Attenborough at Teatro Norman de Palm.

The documentary highlights both the beauty and fragility of the underwater world, drawing attention to global challenges such as overfishing and marine conservation. These themes are particularly relevant for Curaçao, where marine life and coral reefs are under increasing pressure from human activity and environmental change.

The screening was organized as an educational initiative by CARMABI and World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). The goal of the event was to raise awareness among young people about the importance of protecting the natural environment, both locally and globally, and to encourage a sense of responsibility for the oceans.

According to the organizers, engaging students through film is an effective way to spark discussion and reflection on environmental issues that directly affect island communities such as Curaçao. The initiative forms part of broader efforts to involve youth in conservation and sustainability topics that will shape the future of the island.
