Curaçao Medical Center Reports Rise in Influenza A Cases

Health | By Correspondent January 16, 2026

WILLEMSTAD — The Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) has reported a noticeable increase in flu cases, particularly infections involving influenza A.

According to the hospital, there was little cause for concern until recently, but the situation has changed over the past few days. “Ten patients have now tested positive,” the CMC said, noting that the cases come from different departments, including pulmonology, cardiology, and surgery.

In response, the hospital has implemented the same precautionary protocols that were used during the COVID-19 period. These measures include isolating infected patients and applying cohort protocols to prevent further spread within the hospital.

Local pharmacists have confirmed that there is currently no shortage of medication and that the present flu season appears to be comparable to those of previous years.

With the carnival period approaching, the CMC expects the number of infections could rise further. The hospital is therefore urging the public to take extra precautions, such as maintaining good hand hygiene and staying home when experiencing symptoms. The situation continues to be closely monitored.
