WILLEMSTAD - The new parliamentary elections scheduled for March 19 next year should be organized by the Electoral Council.
That is the hope of Minister Armin Konket of Administration, Planning and Services. This week, a national ordinance on this is on the agenda of the Central Commission of Parliament.
If that law is passed, the Supreme Electoral Council will be made independent and will no longer fall under the Minister of Administration, Planning and Services and thus be separate from the government. This will eliminate any political influence.
Konket said that it is now up to parliament to decide on this.
