WILLEMSTAD - Former Prime Minister Gerrit Schotte has now received 21,000 guilders in donations. On Tuesday, the founder of the MFK party posted a video message on social media asking for money donations. These, he says, are still pouring in.
On Monday it became clear that the former prime minister must transfer 1.8 million guilders to the Public Prosecution Service (OM) within ten days, otherwise he will have to go to jail again for three years. Schotte has eight days to collect the remaining amount. On Wednesday morning, he deposited the first amount into the account of the Public Prosecution Service.
Schotte has been convicted of money laundering and official corruption. During his period as Prime Minister, he received at least 1.8 million guilders in bribes and channeled this through bank accounts abroad.
