WILLEMSTAD - The Faculty of Law of the University of Curacao Dr. ir. Moises da Costa Gomez (UoC) and the Center for Postgraduate Education at Radboud University Nijmegen are organizing the twenty-sixth edition of the PAO-intensive courses from 18 to 22 March. An excellent opportunity for lawyers, (junior) civil-law notaries, members of the judiciary, corporate and government lawyers to get involved at high level and to get acquainted with the latest trends in different jurisdictions.
The PAO-intensive courses are unique on the island. Top teachers from the Netherlands and Curaçao are gathered to update local legal professionals on relevant and recent issues in the field of property law and corporate law. This year, a masterclass 'Supervision of and in the financial sector' is also on the program. In addition, there is also a lot of attention for both Dutch and Dutch Caribbean practice. The main lecturers this year are Prof. Bas Kortmann, Prof. Frank Kunneman, Prof. Gerard van Solinge and Guido Roth.
During the 'Property Law' course, the lecturers deal with a number of subjects of goods and contract law that are very relevant to practice, based on the most recent jurisprudence. This may include the doctrine of strict liability, contract law, exoneration clauses and current affairs about financing, securities and insolvency. Important topics in the 'Company Law' course are, in addition to current legislation and jurisprudence in the Netherlands and the Caribbean, corporate governance and liability and the position of the director. The supervision of financial institutions and other market parties is changing rapidly and is becoming more and more intrusive and complicated, both in the Netherlands and the Caribbean. The masterclass 'Supervision of and in the financial sector' deals with, among other things, the organizational structure of the supervision in our kingdom, legal transactions with and the investigation and sanctioning powers of supervisors and the possibilities of legal protection existing in that context. Attention will also be paid to governance and liability aspects of supervision, including the suitability and reliability testing of directors and supervisory directors.
