45 additional healthcare workers support CMC

WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) has now been reinforced by 45 healthcare employees. Spokeswoman Germaine Gibbs confirmed this.

On Friday, Gibbs announced that 29 nurses from AMI via VWS and the Dutch Caribbean Hospital Alliance were working in the hospital. The team has now been further expanded with sixteen employees.

There are currently 51 corona patients in the CMC. Thirteen of these are in intensive care. As many as five people died in quick succession yesterday. All five patients were not vaccinated. One of the patients was in her forties and the other four were over 70.

The extra staff will be deployed in intensive care, emergency care and other departments where extra hands are needed. The nurses come from countries such as South America, the Netherlands, Spain, and Italy.

“As long as we are in a pandemic, we will need help. Compared to other countries, we only have one hospital. That makes it difficult," the spokeswoman said in a statement.
