WILLEMSTAD - Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas met with Damen's employees yesterday. The Pisas cabinet is also surprised by the announced layoffs at the shipyard. About 78 employees are sent home.
The ship repair company is in financial trouble. As part of the agreements made with the Netherlands, 20 million dollars will be invested in the company. The money is intended to pay creditors and for maintenance work. The parent company is also investing $20 million in new infrastructure.
