WILLEMSTAD - The Electoral Council of Curaçao announced yesterday that political parties that want to participate in the new parliamentary elections on March 19 next year must obtain at least 788 votes.
New parties can achieve this during so-called primaries that will be held in the weekend of January 30 and 31, 2021. It looks like many parties will participate in the upcoming elections that are not currently represented in parliament.
To participate in the elections, they must reach 1 percent of the number of people that voted in 2017.
In that year, more than 78,000 people went to the polls. All new parties must show that at least 1 percent of the population is behind them.
Parties wishing to participate in the upcoming elections must submit their candidate list on January 21.
