WILLEMSTAD - Eight undocumented migrants were arrested during a check on a construction site. Officials from BAB, police, immigration, SVB and SOAW visited the construction site of an apartment complex in Vredenberg together with military officers on Tuesday.
The inspection is a follow-up to one that was started earlier, in which the authorities have indicated that they will pay extra attention to construction sites. Work is currently underway to set up further checks, because it has been found that many undocumented workers are employed, especially at construction sites.
As indicated earlier, the checks do not only affect the undocumented. Employers and clients will also be penalized. Among other things, SVB payments must be made immediately, which can amount to at least 4,000 guilders per undocumented employee.
In addition, the SOAW fine can amount to 100,000 guilders and all missed taxes will be charged from the first working day.
