WILLEMSTAD - A young enterprising couple is at the helm of a small-scale tourist complex, ABC Resort Curaçao. The resort has many regular guests who come to Curaçao on holiday every year and who care about the island.

Sjors Nije and Josephine Borghstijn, the managers, always try to encourage the guests to go out and discover the island. In this way, the guests enjoy the resort, each other, but above all the beautiful island and the culture.

The managers couldn't sit still and wait for the borders to open again. They have chosen to actively work for the Food Bank Curaçao. The first initiative actually came from the last tourists who stayed at the resort. They were busy putting together food packages for people in dire need. Subsequently, the company received many reactions from regular guests from the Netherlands; asking if they could also support and help.

Sjors and Josephine have grasped this question with both hands and have started a fundraiser for the Food Bank Curaçao. Initially, they wanted to start assembling the packages themselves, but ultimately decided that centrally organizing the distribution of the packages is best for those in need. The first goal was to collect ANG 5,000. However, after one day the goal was already achieved. After the success of the first amount, the second goal has been quickly adjusted to ANG 15,000.

All networks and channels were used during the fundraiser, such as newsletters, Facebook and Instagram. Our guests thought it was such a good action that they shared our action with friends and even made generous donations. Sjors: "It is really amazing to see how many people have the best for the island and are eager to make this action a success. The donations came from nooks and crannies we never expected."

In the coming weeks, the managers of the company will consider whether multiple actions can be initiated. Josephine: "It gives a lot of positive energy to not sulk at the measures, but to commit yourself to a better Curaçao!". They emphasize that it is important that once everything returns to normal, people return to work and children return to school, we must not forget that poverty will continue for the time being!
