Adjustments to rules for driving licenses and permits

Local | By Correspondent April 12, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - Due to the lockdown, the government has introduced new rules regarding the validity of driving licenses and other permits. With the lockdown it is not possible to issue driving licenses or to renew permits.

All driving licenses that have expired after September 30, 2020 are therefore valid for nine months longer than the deadline. Those who have passed their practical exam, but have not yet obtained a driver's license, are allowed to drive around for a period of nine months. They must have proof in the car that they have passed the practical exam.

People who have a residence permit that has expired must always have these papers with them, so both the expired permit and an identification document. Sedulas (I.D.) that have expired between December 1, 2020 and June 1, 2021 are also valid for 9 months longer.
