Advisory Council positive on bill proposal plastic ban

Local | By Correspondent October 23, 2020

WILLEMSTAD - The Advisory Council considers it good that legislation has been made in which the offering of plastic carrier bags and other plastic and polystyrene material is prohibited. The council calls the initiative bill proposal "a step in the right direction".

However, the Council does not agree with the fact that no advice from the Social and Economic Council (SER) has been incorporated into the bill proposal. Two years ago, the MAN faction in parliament submitted a private member's bill to end the use of plastic shopping bags.

The Advisory Council has responded to the private member's bill. Among other things, it poses questions about the choice of products that will be banned. According to the bill proposal, it concerns plastic bags, cups and straws made of polystyrene cups and containers.
