WILLEMSTAD - A planned meeting of parliament was canceled this morning. The agenda was to discuss the credentials of Emmilou Capriles. She is a candidate for the PAR to take up a seat in parliament.
This morning, however, not enough Members of Parliament were present, so that the meeting could not take place. The opposition has been boycotting the meetings for some time, but earlier this week MFK Member of Parliament Jacinta Constancia was present, so that a quorum was obtained at another meeting.
However, she was not there this morning due to illness. Because of this, Capriles' credentials could not be addressed, but neither could the planned animal rights law.
Several political analysts are calling for the government to resign and become a caretaker cabinet until the elections. This is necessary because the situation in parliament makes it impossible to govern. Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath and his ministers need at least eleven seats in parliament to be able to govern. This is currently not the case.
Elections will be held on March 19.
