SCHIPHOL - If you refuse to wear a face mask on the plane, it can be expensive. A passenger who did not want to use it on a flight to Schiphol on Friday was met by the military police on arrival and paid a settlement of 300 euros.
The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee did not announce the flight on which the passenger was. There was also an incident recently. Then the pilots of a KLM flight even decided to return to Schiphol, because a passenger refused to get a face mask despite repeated requests.
Wearing a mask in an airplane is not made mandatory by the Dutch government, such as in public transport. That is up to airlines to determine. However, passengers are obliged to follow the instructions of the captain.
