Alcalá-Wallé definitely not in parliament

Local | By Correspondent February 9, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - It seems that the vacant seat in the Curaçao parliament of the ruling party PAR will still be filled. But former minister Marilyn Alcalá-Wallé is definitely not making use of her right to return to parliament.

Alcalá-Wallé has not communicated anything to the Supreme Electoral Council for two weeks and that means her chance is gone.

The former minister angrily canceled her membership of the party last year. Everything seems that Emmilou Capriles can still take the seat in parliament on behalf of the Yellow Party. President of Parliament Ana Maria Pauletta hopes that Capriles can be sworn in next Thursday.

The question is whether everything related to her credentials will then be arranged. And also whether enough MPs come to the meeting to discuss Capriles' credentials. There seems to be little interest within the opposition to help the PAR fill in the vacant position.

At the end of last year, the opposition parties did not stand in the way of the return of Yves Schoop to parliament for the MAN, when he took the place of the resigned Elsa Rozendal. But in relation to the PAR, things are different, say opposition members.
