Aliansa is sounding the alarm for domestic violence

Local | By Correspondent October 6, 2020

WILLEMSTAD - The umbrella aid organization Aliansa is sounding the alarm for an increase in domestic violence in Curaçao.

Due to the corona crisis, many plans came to a standstill, and the lockdown actually led to an escalation of domestic and sexual violence. This is according to Jeanne Henriquez of Alisansa and Sheila Albertoe of Fundashon Bos di Hubentut.

The organizations are committed to raising awareness, as well as financial and medical assistance for women who have been victims of domestic violence.

It now appears that at the moment there are too little money and volunteers to cope with the problem. "The boat is in danger of sinking," said Chairman Henriquez.
