WILLEMSTAD - This week, all 6 operating rooms in the Curaçao Medical Center are once again fully operational. Now that all operating rooms are back in use, the CMC can do much more to receive patients who need to have surgery. CMC predicts that the waiting list will drop more quickly.
As a result of the effects caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, some operating rooms were temporarily taken out of use. The worldwide shortage of medical equipment also influenced the operational processes in hospitals and medical institutions. In addition, in the initial phase of the pandemic, it was also decided to limit the number of operations to only the most urgent or essential situations. By decommissioning the operating rooms, it was inevitable that the waiting list for operations would increase.
The OR department has made enormous efforts to remedy this situation, with the result that all 6 operating rooms are once again in full use. With all rooms in use again, according to the CMC, they can decrease the waiting list for patients who must undergo surgery much faster.
