Almost 40 shower heads and one microwave stolen from new hospital

Local | By Correspondent November 27, 2019

WILLEMSTAD - In the first week, almost 40 shower heads and a microwave oven were already stolen from the new hospital.

The Curaçao Medical Center (CMC) is considering checking the bags of the cleaning staff and visitors at the entrance and exit of the hospital. Director Gilbert Martina confirmed this to the media.

Martina says that it is unacceptable, and he regrets that so much has already been stolen from a hospital that has just opened its doors. Martina also confirmed that theft occurred regularly in the Saint Elisabeth Hospital (Sehos).

“It indicates what kind of community we live in. There is a lack of level of consciousness and norms and values.” He speaks of poor education and impoverished school and government systems, among other things. “The norms and values must be restored.”

The shower heads and the microwave are now being replaced, so that patients can use them again quickly.
