WILLEMSTAD - During the pandemic, ambulance care often came too late in urgent cases. Too late means that it takes longer than 15 minutes after someone calls 112 in life-threatening situations before the ambulance arrives on site.
In 2020 and 2021, the set response time was exceeded by 41 percent. By decentralizing the ambulance service again, the Curaçao Ambulance Service (FKA) management hopes that the late response time will come to an end. This became clear last Friday during summary proceedings brought by the FKA management against the unions. For a less urgent case, the response time is thirty minutes. This was exceeded by 37 percent in 2020 and 2021.
According to the unions, there are other reasons for the late response time, such as the shortage of optimally functioning ambulances.
