WILLEMSTAD - An American tourist died on Christmas Day following a drowning incident at Baya Beach, the Korps Politie Curaçao confirmed in a press release.
Police received a report of the incident on December 25 at approximately 3:31 p.m. Upon arrival, officers and the Politur encountered a tourist couple who had gotten into trouble while swimming in the sea. Beachgoers reportedly heard their cries for help and intervened, managing to pull both individuals out of the water.
The male victim was found unconscious. Ambulance personnel arrived quickly but were unable to revive him. A police physician later officially pronounced him deceased at the scene.
The woman was conscious and was transported urgently to the Curaçao Medical Center for medical treatment. No update has been provided on her condition.
Politur has launched the standard investigation that follows incidents of this nature. Authorities have not released further details about the circumstances surrounding the drowning.
