WILLEMSTAD - “Drink awa di lamunchi (lemon juice) and swallow asperines, then nothing will happen to you”. This is according to Member of Parliament and businessman Amparo dos Santos. He thus responds to the first 19,000 corona vaccines that arrived in Curaçao on Wednesday.
According to the political leader of Korsou di Nos Tur, Curaçao should not be vaccinated against the corona virus. “What does Zita (Minister of Health) think; that we are dogs or cats and that she can treat us like that? We are not going to test any vaccines here, they do that in the Netherlands,” says Dos Santos.
Instead of the Pfizer vaccine paid for by the Dutch government, Dos Santos advises drinking awa di lamunchi. In addition, his party will be distributing aspirins in the neighborhoods. “Then the blood will circulate well, and nothing can happen to you” said the party leader.
Dos Santos does not believe in the effect of the vaccine. “It doesn't help anything, and if it does, then only for three months. Joe Biden has already been given it twice and is still wearing a face mask. Why are you doing it then? When does his immune system get stronger? In the Netherlands people have even died from the vaccine.”
Dos Santos' party obtained more than 9% of the vote in the 2017 elections. That equates to two seats in the Curaçao parliament. With a total number of votes of 7,439 he finished fourth.
