Andruw Jones on Track to Make Hall of Fame History as Curaçao’s First MLB Inductee

Local | By Correspondent January 19, 2026

WILLEMSTAD — Curaçaoan baseball legend Andruw Jones is on the verge of making history — and could become the first Major League Baseball player from Curaçao ever elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, if the 2026 voting results reflect current trends.

According to early public ballot tracking, Jones is polling at around 84.7% support from voters whose choices have been made public, placing him within striking distance of the 75% threshold required for induction.

Jones, a former MLB star whose career spanned 17 seasons — most notably with the Atlanta Braves — is widely admired for his exceptional combination of defensive brilliance and offensive power. The center fielder’s résumé includes 434 career home runs, five All-Star selections, 10 consecutive Gold Glove Awards and leadership roles on some of baseball’s most successful teams.

Now in the final years of his eligibility on the Baseball Writers’ Association of America (BBWAA) ballot, Jones has seen consistent growth in support over the years. After earning just 7.3% of the vote in his first year on the ballot, his percentage steadily increased through multiple cycles — reaching 66.2% as recently as the 2025 Hall of Fame voting.

A Landmark for Curaçao Baseball

If elected, Jones would mark a historic milestone for Curaçao, an island that has produced a remarkable number of MLB talents relative to its size. His potential induction would spotlight the deep baseball roots and growing global influence of Curaçao’s players — from Jones himself to current stars such as All-Stars like Kenley Jansen and others who have followed in his footsteps.

The 2026 Hall of Fame vote results are officially scheduled to be announced Tuesday, January 20, with inductees to be honored in Cooperstown this summer. Should Jones secure the necessary votes, his enshrinement would represent not only personal recognition for one of baseball’s great all-around players but also a proud moment for Curaçao’s storied baseball tradition.
