WILLEMSTAD - Dogs that have been in the shelter for years and reside in small spaces. Not animal-friendly to say the least. An animal shelter is not equipped for such a long stay and is not intended for that, says chairman of the Animal Protection Foundation Gregory Berry.
As a result, there are no funds to maintain the institute and there is no room for new dogs. In this way it misses its target and it costs two tons a year, says Berry.
So animal protection took a drastic measure. Dogs now stay for just four days in one of the cages on the premises at Parera and then they are released from their suffering.
