WILLEMSTAD - The Animal Welfare Act will enter the second round of debate by parliament, MAN Member of Parliament Giselle McWilliam announced.
It is not yet known when the law can actually be introduced. The Animal Welfare Act makes it possible to impose fines on people who mistreat animals, for example.
When the new Animal Welfare Act comes into effect, there will be an umbrella body, Stichting Dierenbescherming Curaçao, that will supervise the law and activities related to animal welfare. The introduction of the law has been a long process, the initiative to amend the law was already taken on October 4, 2017.
