WILLEMSTAD - The Animal Welfare Act will probably be discussed in parliament within a month. That's what Giselle McWilliam says who submitted the law on behalf of coalition party MAN. The law makes it possible to impose fines on people who mistreat animals, for example. Animal protection acts as the umbrella body for supervising the law and possibly acting if someone does not comply with it.
When the new Animal Welfare Act enters into force, there will be an umbrella body. That explains Giselle Mc William who has been involved with this bill proposal since the beginning. This body will be the Animal Protection Curaçao Foundation. They must supervise the law and activities related to animal welfare. The law stipulates, among other things, how to deal with animals: for example, what space a dog should have and what rights the animal has.
