WILLEMSTAD - The Curaçao parliament agreed yesterday to a change in the National Permit Ordinance. This means that the old rule from 1949 that discriminated against women has disappeared.
According to the rule, a special permit had to be requested from the government every time business owners wanted to hire a woman in the hospitality industry.
This rule did not apply to men. The current Minister of Economic Development Giselle Mc William submitted a law amendment for this at the end of 2017.
