Aqualectra begins installing Christmas lights across Curaçao

Local | By Correspondent November 8, 2024

WILLEMSTAD - This week, Aqualectra, the utility company in Curaçao, started the installation of Christmas lights at various roundabouts and in the city center as part of preparations for the holiday season. However, the lights have not yet been turned on.

On Thursday afternoon, a large yellow object featuring a hand was placed at the Rotonde di Zegu on the road to Westpunt. In Otrobanda, near the entrance of the Rif Fort, Christmas trees made of lights have been installed. Streetlights in the downtown area have also been adorned with festive decorations.

Aqualectra is responsible for setting up the Christmas lights annually in the city center and at various roundabouts and traffic squares. Last year, the holiday lights could be viewed via a livestream from Brionplein, allowing people to enjoy the Pontjesbrug, passersby, and the Christmas decorations.

Not only has Aqualectra embraced the festive spirit, but local shopkeepers have also begun decorating their stores with Christmas trees, lights, and artificial snow, adding to the holiday atmosphere across the island.
