WILLEMSTAD – Aqualectra finalized a multi-year restructuring process in 2024 that resulted in a leaner organization and a reduced workforce. The number of employees declined from 592 to 561, following the completion of a rightsizing initiative that began in 2021.
The restructuring led to the departure of 74 employees over several years, a process that management described as difficult but necessary for the company’s long-term viability. Personnel expenses nonetheless increased in 2024, partly because the restructuring lasted longer than originally planned and included higher temporary labor costs.
Management acknowledged that the restructuring period caused uncertainty within the organization, but stated that employee engagement and training are now central to Aqualectra’s future strategy. A renewed people agenda has been introduced, focusing on skills development, innovation and organizational resilience.
Despite the reduction in staff, service reliability improved in both the electricity and water networks, with fewer and shorter outages reported during the year.
