Aqualectra is in desperate need of technicians

Local | By Correspondent December 10, 2020

WILLEMSTAD - During a press conference on the day of the blackout, the Director of Aqualectra, Darick Jones declared that they need about twenty to thirty technicians to help quickly so that the utility company is assured of sufficient manpower to guarantee the power supply.

These technicians will be recruited locally as much as possible, but a request has also been made to the Finnish company Wärtsilä, which has technicians available worldwide. This concerns the extra expertise that is required and cannot be attracted locally.

Jonis says that the situation is stable again and there are no more uncertainties. The network can also cope with the coming Christmas period with possibly more demand for electricity.

The director says that an investigation will be conducted about what lead to the blackout on Monday and a report will be drawn up.

It is not known where the now hired experts from Wärtsilä come from. The last time they came from Bulgaria, but the company also has people in the Caribbean. But they will be temporarily since the local employees infected with COVID-19 will return to work as soon as they recover.
