Aqualectra Reports Lower Electricity and Water Prices in 2025 Amid Major Investments

Local | By Correspondent January 14, 2026

WILLEMSTAD – Utility company Aqualectra has presented 2025 as a year marked by affordability, supply reliability, and substantial investment. Published figures show that both electricity and water prices declined, while the company reached record numbers of connections and invested heavily in infrastructure and sustainability.

According to Aqualectra, the average electricity price on Curaçao fell by nearly 11 percent in 2025. The tariff dropped to approximately 0.58 guilders per kilowatt-hour, compared to more than 0.64 guilders the year before. Drinking water prices also decreased, falling by about 3 percent to just over 11 guilders per cubic meter.

The utility attributes the lower tariffs to ongoing investments in energy and water production and distribution, including the modernization of facilities and the expansion of sustainable capacity. However, the company did not provide a detailed breakdown linking specific investments to the price reductions.

Record number of connections

Aqualectra also reported a record number of new connections. In 2025, more than 3,000 new electricity connections and over 1,400 new water connections were added. This brings the total to nearly 188,000 electricity connections and more than 91,000 water connections across the island.

In terms of investment, the company says it spent more than 150 million guilders in 2025. Most of this funding went toward electricity and water infrastructure, with a strong focus on reliability and sustainability. Aqualectra described the spending as part of a multi-year strategy to make the utility network more resilient and future-proof.

Staff expansion

The company also expanded its workforce. Across Aqualectra and its affiliated companies, more than 100 new employees were hired in 2025. According to the utility, the additional staff are needed to support the growing number of customers and the increasing scale of technical projects.

Aqualectra has not yet released its full financial results for 2025, stating that those figures will be published at a later date. For now, the company highlights 2025 as a year in which lower tariffs were combined with continued investment and capacity growth, aimed at ensuring a stable and affordable utility supply for Curaçao in the long term.
