WILLEMSTAD - Utility company Aqualectra has started installing smart meters for water and electricity. The meters have recently been tested in three different neighborhoods and are now being placed permanently.
The Abrahamsz and Sapaté neighborhoods are the first to use smart meters. A team of Aqualectra employees goes door to door to remove the old meters and install the new 'intelligent' ones.
With the new network, consumers can better manage their own water and electricity consumption, the meters are digital and easier to read. In addition, the new meters will ensure less leakage.
Aqualectra will announce through advertisements in the newspapers in which neighborhoods the meters will be replaced.
It is expected that the installation of the smart meters on the entire island will take three years.
