WILLEMSTAD - Aqualectra offers its customers a one-off compensation of a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 1,000 guilders in connection with the four blackouts in December and January. The amount of the compensation depends, among other things, on the number of hours that the power was out in the area.
Customers must first register to be eligible for the discount. You can do this online until April 15th or until April 8th at one of the three temporarily open offices.
Most of the 80,000 customers will be entitled to a discount of about 25 guilders. It is therefore not a matter of compensation for the material damage caused by the blackouts. According to Aqualectra, 81 percent of the claims have been settled in that regard. Until now 300,000 guilders in compensation have been paid.
The one-off compensation is expressly intended as a gesture to the population. Under the motto "Danki na bo", the utility company is taking into account a cost of 1.8 million guilders. This means that the utility company does not run away from its responsibilities as a producer and supplier of water and electricity.
Everything is done to prevent something like that from happening again.
