WILLEMSTAD - The custody of the soldier who was arrested on Sunday 18 October was extended by two weeks by the examining magistrate last Friday. The Public Prosecution Service reports this. The soldier is suspected of attempted manslaughter and assault.
The victim in the case, also a military man, was found with various injuries in an apartment complex near the communal swimming pool in the night from Saturday to Sunday, October 18.
The man had several (superficial) injuries, a broken ankle, and a cut on his elbow. Based on witness statements, the Public Prosecution suspects the suspect of causing the injuries.
As far as is known, no other persons are involved in the violence. The victim was a well-known colleague of the suspect; they drank alcohol together that evening. There is also a suspicion of drug use by the suspect.
The criminal investigation conducted by the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee under the leadership of the Public Prosecution Service is still in progress.
