ORANJESTAD, WILLEMSTAD - According to the Aruban website Notisia Cla, the Aruban minister of Justice Andin Bikker has indicated that the border with Venezuela will remain closed for the time being.

Aruba closed its borders with Venezuela last month, in response to the decision from Caracas to open the borders properly.

Aruba is afraid of a large influx of migrants from Venezuela, where more than 3 million people have fled the country in crisis. Bikker stated that the border will in any case remain closed for a few months.

The Prime Minister of Aruba Evelyn Wever-Croes was more specific. She indicated that the borders will remain closed for the next three months. Aruba is also doing this in solidarity with Curaçao and Bonaire indicating that there are no three borders but one border, that of the Dutch Kingdom.

Premier Wever-Croes also indicated that she has made this decision in consultation with Prime Minister of Curaçao Eugene Rhuggenaath and the Kingdom Minister of Foreign Affairs Stef Blok.
