Aruba quickly wants "code yellow" for Dutch tourists

ORANJESTAD - According to Aruban Tourism Minister Dangui Oduber, Aruba will also become a "code yellow" destination for passengers from the Netherlands next week. Oduber said this to Aruban media on Tuesday. Last Friday, Oduber spoke with Undersecretary Paul Blokhuis of Health, Welfare and Sport. Based on this conversation, Oduber expressed his expectation of a change in the code. Oduber recently called it strange that Curaçao is a "code yellow" destination for Dutch visitors and Aruba is not.

There are 467 active infections on Curaçao. There were 85 active infections in Aruba on Tuesday, but the island currently has a "code orange". This means that travel is only allowed when necessary.

If the RIVM in the Netherlands decides that Aruba is also a "code yellow" destination, tourists from the Netherlands can simply come. Aruba was severely hit during the second corona wave and had more than 1600 infections for some time around September, 44 people have also died since March of this year.

The island's policy is to test many people. In total, more than 45,000 people, including tourists, have been tested since the start of the pandemic. The island, which is largely dependent on tourism for its economy, currently mainly receives American tourists. In October, the island received some 23,000 passengers, of which nearly 21,000 were from America.
