Aruban Parliament rejects Dutch conditions

Local | By Correspondent August 17, 2020

ORANJESTAD - The parliament of Aruba unanimously rejected the Dutch conditions for financial corona aid.

The reason for rejection is the too great authority of the Netherlands in the entity to be set up, which will distribute the money. Parliament did not offer an alternative, although Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes asked for this in the event of rejection.

Aruba needs half a billion guilders until the end of this year, but the treasury is empty. In the coming month, Aruba may no longer be able to pay civil servants' salaries.
