Local | By Correspondent December 30, 2020

ORANJESTAD - Aruban Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes received two death threats yesterday because of her announcement earlier in the day that the government will implement a curfew starting on December 30. This is reported by the local website www.24ora.com that has seen the content of the threats.

One threat says the prime minister will be shot before the start of the new year. Another person says that Wever-Croes cannot go outside without a bodyguard, otherwise she will be killed.

The threats are a direct result of the imposition of a curfew from December 30th between 11pm and 5am.

According to Wever-Croes, the curfew is a result of the increase in the number of corona infections in the recent period. The Prime Minister wants to prevent further spread.

During the corona period, a few months ago, also as a result of corona measures, she was threatened with death by angry compatriots. The police are investigating the threats.
