Aruba's border with Venezuela remains closed

Local | By Correspondent November 1, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - The border between Venezuela and Aruba remains closed. The air and sea border has been closed since 2019. Through indirect flights via Colombia or Panama it is possible to get from Venezuela to Aruba.

Last Friday the manifesto was handed over to ministers Glenbert Croes of Integration and Rocco Tjon of Justice and Social Affairs at the Administrative Office. Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes indicates that a visa is a requirement if travelers fly from Venezuela to Aruba via a detour.

It is not easy to open the border between Venezuela and Aruba. If this does happen, many checks have to be made. Venezuelan President Maduro closed the border in 2018. The president accused the Aruba government of copper theft. This damaged the image of the island. From that moment on, the borders were closed. The government of Aruba wants to prevent this from happening again.
