Association HiMA advocates clean drinking water for vulnerable groups

Local | By Correspondent June 8, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - The association Hende-i-Medio-Ambiente (HiMA), human and the environment, has asked the Parliament of Curaçao for a bill proposal whereby the most vulnerable groups in society receive 1 cubic meter of water.

The organization states that for years attention has been drawn to more than 2,500 inhabitants who do not have access to clean drinking water and sanitary facilities. HiMa states that it is a primary necessity of life for people. "In addition, hygienic preventive measures must be possible, especially after the corona pandemic," the HiMa indicated.

The ombudsman also pointed out the problem in his letter of concern of May 2020. He concluded at the time that it is the duty of the government to ensure that very vulnerable groups have access to clean drinking water.
