WILLEMSTAD - It will take at least another ten years before all problems with paying Giro account holders have been resolved.
The specially established GI-RO Settlement Holding must handle the settlement. First, account holders could withdraw up to 10,000 guilders.
That has now been adjusted upwards to a limit of 1.2 million guilders. This helped almost everyone, except for 28 large entities, such as Refineria Isla, various government entities, and the General Pension Fund.
To pay everyone out, Curacao has been able to borrow 170 million guilders interest-free from the Netherlands.
