EL SALVADOR - Curaçaoan athlete Glenka Antonia delivered a historic performance at the Central American and Caribbean Games yesterday. She secured Curaçao's first-ever medal at these Games, a silver, in the women's high jump final.
Antonia cleared an impressive height of 1.84 meters, narrowly missing out on the gold medal, which was won by Dominican athlete Marysabel Senyu with a jump of 1.86 meters.
In addition to being Curaçao's first medal since becoming an autonomous country within the Kingdom (2010), this is the second consecutive time that Antonia has been the sole medalist for Curaçao in a regional championship.
Last year, she also won a silver medal in the high jump at the South American Games (ODESUR). This achievement also occurred during the final of the competition, similar to her performance yesterday.
With her jump of 1.84 meters, Antonia matched her best performance of the season in the high jump. This is a tremendous honor for the young athlete and a testament to her dedication and talent in the field of sports.
Her highest jump ever was 1.85 meters on September 11th last year in Assendelft. In the long jump, she achieved a distance of 5.68 meters with a headwind of 1.2 m/s in Breda in 2021.
