Authorities Inspect 32 Fireworks Sales Locations, Irregularities Found

Local | By Correspondent December 29, 2025

WILLEMSTAD — A multidisciplinary inspection team has carried out checks over the past several days at 32 sales locations authorized to sell fireworks this year, authorities announced in a joint statement.

The inspection team consists of representatives from the Ministry of Economic Development, the Tax and Valuations Implementation Organization, Public Works Department, the Tax Accountants Bureau Foundation, the Ministry of Social Development, Labor and Welfare, and the Fire Department Curaçao.

Authorities noted a sharp increase in the number of licensed fireworks sales points compared to last year. In 2024, only 23 locations were authorized to sell fireworks, making this year’s total a significant rise.

Fireworks offered without approval

During the inspections, the team found that some vendors were offering fireworks for sale that had not yet passed the mandatory safety inspection. In several cases, business owners were also issued warnings for incorrect or unclear price labeling, including displaying prices in an incorrect currency.

Inspectors further observed that minors were working at some sales locations. Authorities stated that these youths were permitted to perform only light duties, such as filling bags and assisting customers with transporting fireworks to their vehicles.

In addition, fireworks dating back to 2022 were discovered at certain locations. Authorities ordered that these products be removed from sale immediately.

The multidisciplinary team announced that inspections will continue in the coming days, as authorities intensify oversight to ensure safety, consumer protection, and compliance during the fireworks sales period.
