AVB in conversation with fishermen Playa Kanoa after dissatisfaction

Local | By Correspondent May 27, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - A delegation from Agricultural and Fisheries Management (AVB) visited Playa Kanoa this week. The fishermen are dissatisfied with the state of the port.

The fisherman's house was renovated in 2013 by the Ministry of Health, Environment and Nature (GMN). The new roof and sanitary facilities were stolen shortly afterwards.

According to interim director Frensel Marchena, Playa Kanoa is an important port because it is the only location on the north side where emergency services can enter the sea in the event of an emergency. The fishermen want the roof of the fisherman's house to be renewed. The pier also needs to be replaced, so that larger boats can moor.

Marchena has contacted Public Works for advice. It is being investigated whether cameras can be installed to prevent burglaries.
