WILLEMSTAD - On Sunday, there will be a grand farewell for the Tumba King, Anselmus ‘Boy’ Dap. The musician passed away on November 1, at the age of 88.
Dap will be commemorated with a procession along the route of the carnival parade. The ride will start on Sunday late afternoon under police escort from the World Trance Center to Julianadorp, Jan Noorduynweg, Weg naar Welgelegen and via Roodeweg to Brionplein. At Awasa, Dap will be taken by hearse to the Bethania cemetery.
The composer, singer and musician has been part of various music groups since the 1970s. He achieved many successes at the Tumba festival. He has won the festival more than ten times. Dap is considered the 'Tata di Tumba', the father of the carnival music, the Tumba. According to music association AMAK, Dab was one of the first board members of the association in 1968.
The farewell ceremony can be followed via TeleCuracao and TV Direct. During the farewell, well-known Dap songs will be played and various people will speak, including Prime Minister Gilmar Pisas. Governor Lucille George-Wout and other ministers will also be present.
