Bilingual education encourages foreign language mastery

Local | By Correspondent June 29, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - Bilingual education encourages mastery of a foreign language. This is according to psychologist Nihayra Leona. Leona has followed the students of the HAVO/VWO schools SKAIH and Albert Schweitzer for 4 years, where bilingual education is provided.

At SKAIH, classes are taught in both Papiamentu and English and at Albert Schweizer in Dutch and English. The research shows that mastery of Dutch as a subject at SKAIH was very good, as was the mastery of Papiamentu as a subject at Albert Schweitzer.

Leona completed her research last week and hopes to publish the results early next year.
