Blind are trained to be masseur

Local | By Correspondent April 20, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - Visually impaired and blind people will soon be trained as a masseur. The Dutch trainer for masseurs Paul Vrenken will come to Curaçao in June to give the course. Vrenken wants to make people with a visual impairment more self-reliant. Thanks to this training, they will soon be able to take care of themselves again and make a meaningful contribution to Curaçao society. According to Vrenken, blind and partially sighted people are particularly suitable as masseurs. They are used to thinking and feeling from their hands. They also need to feel in order to interpret and understand. The Curaçao participants were selected through the Pro Bista organization for the blind.

The new national coach Art Langeler is interested in the plan. The students may be able to do an internship with the Curaçao national team. They could hone their massage skills by treating the tired muscles of the football players.
