Board Rotary Club Willemstad: “It is going to be a great year”

Local | By Correspondent August 6, 2021

WILLEMSTAD - The Rotary year 2020-2021 will be a special year for Rotary Club Willemstad. During the Change of the Board, the two Presidents (Benno van Leeuwen and Rob Kouijzer) announced that they would work with the board and the various committees this year to represent the seven focal points of Rotary International in their activities. The seven focus areas are: Peace and Conflict Management, Disease Prevention and Treatment, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Maternal and Child Health, Primary Education and Literacy, Economic and Social Development and Environment.

In anticipation of the focus on 'Environment', Rotary Willemstad had recycled plastic bags made with the text: 'Bai Flit, ku bo plèstik' (go away with your plastic). These were presented to Myrthe Verhulst and Corine Senior of Clean Up Curaçao and Berry Wouters founder of the Daily Meal Project.

“With this bag we want to draw attention to all the plastic that pollutes nature and further support extra awareness of recycling projects that exist,” says Rob Kouijzer.

In addition to focusing on the environment, Rotary also supports the Daily Meal Project, given the current crisis in Curaçao. By organizing the Change of the Board differently and doing business together, we saved 30% on the budget and could donate f 1,329 to the Daily Meal Project. During CuraDoet last Saturday, July 31, Rotary also contributed by painting the interior walls and renewing the ceiling of the Daily Meal Project building in Seru Grandi.
