Bureaucracy major obstacle for CBS

Local | By Correspondent May 4, 2022

WILLEMSTAD - The bureaucracy in the financing projects for the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) is the biggest bottleneck, which means that it is not possible to present current figures. This is what CBS director Sean de Boer declared.

The agency works with freelancers who have to gather the information and figures. But without money, CBS cannot hire external workers. Previously, CBS had a bank account with a budget for research. This account no longer exists, so there is no flexibility or buffer for conducting investigations. Yesterday, the Curaçao Business Association (VBC) criticized CBS because the agency is unable to provide inflation figures. The reason for this therefore lies with the system within the government.
